Happy Valentine’s Day! When I was visiting this past Christmas my father showed me some love letters he found that my great grandfather had written to my great-grandmother. He wooed her with words, including poetry. The moment I held them I knew I was a part of a story of true love.
In honor of that love I am simply going to share some photos of loves that I love. In the larger scheme of things it is the story of these loves that have led to me having my own Valentine this special day. I regret that I may never know their entire love story. I will simply have to make due with the photos and love letters that I have come to cherish so much.
Sarah and Isaac are my great-great grandparents. My father’s grandmother, Emma, his favorite person growing up, was their daughter. My niece is named after her.
This photo was taken on their wedding day. They were cousins. He was 22 years old and she was 13.
My grandmother never told me a great deal about her parents, but I knew they worked hard to take care of their family. If we happen to have a little girl this coming June, she will be named “Phoebe.”
This photo was taken in Ohio Co., KY when my grandparents were “a-courtin’.”
This is a photo of my husband and his mother.
My husband’s dad and Tinkerbell are so very much in love it is like hanging out with a couple of college kids sometimes.
My father told me once that he would be lost without my mother. I believe him, and know she would be lost without him too.
This is a photo of my husband and I on our wedding day. I always knew it would snow on my wedding day, and he knew that it would rain. Guess what. We got both that day.
While it is truly wonderful that there is a day dedicated to love each year, every day can have that same sense of romance if you only take the time to work at it. When two people are in love it is not that difficult to do. Decisions become easier and you just want to do things to make the other person happy. This post is dedicated to everyone who knows what it feels like to be in the midst of such comfort, pleasure, and inspiration.
